Black farmers – possibly over 70,000 of them – will get cash payments
and debt relief from the federal government totaling $1.25 billion, in
reparation for alleged racial discrimination suffered under the
Department of Agriculture’s loan programs, the Obama Administration
has agreed.

The president announced the deal on Thursday, applauding Agriculture
Secretary Tom Vilsack and Attorney General Eric Holder for “bringing these long-ignored claims of African American farmers to a rightful

The Washington Post called the settlement “part of a wider effort by
Obama and senior officials to dispense with lawsuits stemming from
America’s checkered civil rights legacy.”

House Majority Whip and Congressional Black Caucus member James Clyburn cheered the deal. “History has taught us to never give up when fighting for what is right,” he said in a statement. “What happened to these black farmers was wrong, and we now have the opportunity to make it right.”

Clyburn said, “I thank President Obama for his leadership on this
issue” adding that “I especially want to congratulate my colleagues in the Congressional Black Caucus for keeping the focus on the plight of
black farmers.”

Congress, as well as a federal judge, will have to approve the deal. The Justice Department told the Post that claims up to $50,000 will be able to be made to the government through a streamlined process, while larger claims will require more detail in the evidence a victim provides of government discrimination. The charges made by thousands of black farmers, with culpability finally accepted by Washington, accuse the USDA of decades of racist practices.

That $1.25 billion is only a fraction, however, of the sum that the
reparations movement has called for to compensate for all the injustices committed against blacks in American history.

The National Legal and Policy Center some years ago examined slave
reparations activism and found one proponent calling for the federal
government “to pay $500,000 to every slave descendant,”which would
total “more than $15 trillion and require a surtax of roughly $50,000
on each non-African American man, woman and child in this country (the median family income is not even that high).”

Another estimate from a 1990s Harper’s magazine article calculated
that reparations would cost $97 trillion – based on 222,505,049 hours
of forced labor between 1619 and 1865, plus 6% compounded interest.

Pointing to “the staggering breadth of America’s crime against us,” TransAfrica founder Randall Robinson in his book, “The Debt: What America Owes to Blacks,” argued that “Solutions must be tailored to the scope of the crime in a way that would make the victim whole. In this case, the psychic and economic injury is enormous, multidimensional and long-running. Thus must be America’s restitution to blacks for the damage done.”

According to the reparations mindset, therefore, President Obama’s $1.25 billion for 70,000-plus black farmers is hardly even a beginning.

All I can say is ALLELUIA!! It is about time y’all began to pay for the crimes and sins of your forefathers. The proud African-American that has sweat, died, been tortured, slaughtered and held down by the European-Americans begin to get reparartions. The very same descendants of the African-American people that built this great nation and have nothing to show for it.
We can only pray that this is the start of reparations for all African-American descendants of the slaves. Thanks heaven for Barack Hussein Obama.

  2. armageddonoutahere Says:

Don’t you and your ilk get tired of taking from those who work while y’all
just laze around whining and complaining about how unfair the world is to y’all ? Just what do y’all contribute to the greatness of this country ?
BTW where’s the redistribution of wealth to the people who actually built this country ? How about the Irish, Italians, Chinese, Spanish etc. ? They were all discriminated against but they worked hard and proved their worth. When are y’all gonna do that? Y’all should get on your knees every night and thank God that we saved your lives from the African chiefs who were going to kill y’all. Looks like we adopted y’all. Y’all are taken care of from cradle to grave.

  3. Wanderant Says:

Patsy- First, you need to go into Europe to get your fist cut of reparations from the Europeans (you know, your beloved French, Portuguese, Spanish and English socialists) who imported slavery, as taught to them by the Africans, into America. Since Obie has the Socie’s eating out of his hand-this should be easy-right?

Then, African-American reparations will need to be deducted from the escalated costs of transporting, feeding, housing and then undertaking a costly civil war for them: from 1776 to 1865 (that’s just about 90 years -isn’t it?).

Then, we would have to deduct the costs of carrying them for the near-century (1875-1965) after they were granted their freedoms to the Civil Rights Act. Then, we would have to deduct the costs of affirmative action and countless other entitlement programs specifically designed to elevate their status (apparently, still a problem?). Then, we would definitely have to deduct the costs of carrying modern Africa, where their ancestors still suckle at the worlds BIG BOOBS, but mostly America’s.

If there are any surplus reparation funds left over we’ll need to go back to the beginning of recorded history with our measley and dwindling reparation checkbook to repay the Israelites for centuries of enslavement by the Egyptians and other Africans. Most economists would suggest that the 40 acres probably disappeared, but you might still be able to squeeze an old mule out of the remaining loose change.

    Are we done now?

  4. PATRIOT Says:

NO WE AREN’T DONE!!! Y’all had no problem giving reparations to the Japanese that were merely detained during WWII. African-Americans built this great nation in the 1700’s and 1800’s and continue to do so today.
As to the rest of Wanderants and Armageddonoutaheres racist diatribes. I will not even quantify it with a response. Y’all have to live with your racism and miss out on the experience of having a human relationship with people of color.

  5. Wanderant Says:

    Yep, we’re done.

We should NOT have given reparations to the Japanese. We probably should not have detained them, either, although we do have the benefit of hindsight. And, this is the POINT. We can’t go back in time to rectify wrongs of the past by punishing rights of the present. At the time the Japanese were interned, it was determined to be the right decision at THAT time to protect the country. You need to stop removing CONTEXT from your RACIST argument. I don’t hear you looking for reparation for any other groups that were wronged throughout history – or even now. Why aren’t you concerned about Christians being slaughtered in Muslim countries or women being routinely slaughtered in Asian, Muslim and African countries? These are groups presently being wronged, but, I don’t hear you caring about ANYBODY else but YOURSELF. America cares about ALL wrongs, and is committed to doing something about ALL of them, not just “some” of them.

You are simply a self-centered RACIST, and a spoiled American “Child”.

    Night, night, now.

  6. Im blinded by bullshit Says:

I live on a farm and I was turned down for government money more than once. I filled out the papers and took the steps only to be turned down. The worst part is that they didn’t care. They would never call or let you know. You waited. The rich farmer down the road got his check in the mail. It was just like everything else is today. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. I just have one problem with this. I’m white. Now I’m a man that was turned down but I’m white. I do farm and I can prove it. So where does this leave me and others like it. I guess I have it coming because of my color. I have worked hard all my life, Made my own way. But when the government was handing out money to rich farmers that didn’t need it I figured I would get my part. didn’t work for me and it aint going to work now. I’m not rich and I’m not black. I’m just a working class white man. The minority.

  7. The South will rise again Says:

I’m so sick of hearing this we owe you something bullshit. Grow up, pull your pants up. Speak English. Figure out that having sex with a woman can make he pregnant. Understand if you do not wont to get her pregnant then do not have sex with her or wear a condom and if you do get her pregnant then be a man and raise your child. And learn the word job does not mean having ten kids and going to the mailbox the get your check. Put your trust in the lord, show respect, work hard and take care of your family. My taxpaying ass is tired of taking care of you. This goes out to the black, white and any other trash out there.

  8. RKruger Says:

I am late to the party on this discussion but I want to put in a quick note. I just got back from South Africa where my husband and I had to put to rest his father. He was brutally beaten and tortured then killed by 6 savages. There are 50 of these brutally tortures and killings a day in South Africa. So PATRIOT who commented above, you owe my family reparations for killing our father. And his life was priceless to us. So pay up. Or better yet, get on a boat and go back to Africa where you can spew your hatred, racist rants.
